What Is the InView Test?

The InView test is a nationally governed multiple-choice aptitude assessment used by many schools around the country. It is given to students from the 2nd to 12th grade and is used to assess a student’s cognitive abilities as well as identify their strengths and hidden abilities. Students that score high on this test are considered to be academically gifted and only the top few scorers will be placed into a G&T program.

Assessment

During the test, students will come across 15 types of verbal and nonverbal questions derived from 5 categories to get a reliable Cognitive Skills Index (CSI) score. What Are InView’s Test Sections?

The InView test includes five subtests that include 15 different types of questions to assess a student’s cognitive abilities.

Verbal Reasoning – Words and Context

In the Verbal Reasoning section of the test, your child will be given a group of words that will all adhere to a certain rule. These Verbal Reasoning questions mean that your child should understand word meanings, relationships between words, and possess a strong foundation in categorical thinking to be able to make logical interpretations based on the words provided.

Sequences

In this section, your child will be shown a sequence of shapes and figures, and they have to use their logical cognitive skills to analyze and understand what comes next, based on the clues provided in the sequence.

Analogies

Analogical reasoning is vital for knowledge and learning new skills and is a good indicator of general intelligence. It tests a student’s ability to integrate new knowledge about relationships, without any knowledge of language or numeracy. These questions require your child to recognize patterns and similarities between shapes and figures to identify the relationship between pairs. In this section, your child will be shown three images – the first two go together, and your child will have to find the matching image to the third image based on the relationship from the first pair.

Quantitative Reasoning

The quantitative reasoning section of the test measures your child’s ability to problem solve using numerical skills rather than learned mathematics. The types of questions involved will likely include numerical puzzles, algebraic equations, numerical reasoning, puzzles, flowcharts, comparisons, fractions, and interference.

How to Prepare for the InView Test?

Gifted and talented programs in the US are extremely desirable. Many children will enter the InView test, but only a few will be selected for a gifted and talented program. If you want your child to stand the best chance of scoring high on the InView test, you must first prepare.
